About
It all started with my hobby of building and flying model airplanes. As a teenager, together with my father and brother, I began building our first aircraft, the Graupner Taxi, in 1978. The Taxi is still for sale today, in 2010—albeit modified—but it remains a popular model. After the Taxi came the Snoopy and the Westerly. We obtained our pilot's licenses with the Taxi and the Snoopy back then. After the Taxi came the somewhat faster models, such as the Puma and the Curare. A large number of different versions of this Curare were built: both 6.5cc and 10cc, fully wooden construction, styrofoam wings, and even a twin-engine version. The Curare flew wonderfully; all kinds of figures were and are perfectly achievable with this aircraft. At that time, ARF models were not yet for sale. Everything was built from scratch, starting from drawings. We would pick up balsa wood and birch plywood and start building. The cockpit canopies and the styrofoam cores of the wings were also made by hand. Some auxiliary tools were made during that time. Besides aerobatics, scale models such as the Spitfire from World War II are also very beautiful. It is therefore not surprising that I, too, started building these types of models. The aircraft also became increasingly larger, and the emphasis shifted from building to flying. This was necessary because my family situation changed and I had less time for the hobby. Now, after more than 30 years, flying is still my great hobby. Particularly the somewhat larger models between 1.6 and 2.5 meters. After all, they still have to fit in the car. However, I have noticed that these aircraft are quite pricey and difficult to obtain. This is the reason why I started looking into whether I could import these aircraft myself. My goal is therefore to get more pilots enthusiastic about the somewhat larger aircraft, including the use of gasoline engines. I would also like to share my experience and knowledge with others. I aim to achieve this by providing background information on the site, in addition to the products. What do you need for a specific aircraft? Which type of motor suits a particular aircraft, petrol or electric, what motor power is required, number of servos, batteries, extension cables, etc. Have a great time flying. Erik Grutter
